Make holiday travel easier with trusted, personalized pet care from Superior Pet Service.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner! As families throughout Erie, Frederick, Firestone, Broomfield, Lafayette, Louisville, and surrounding Northern Colorado communities prepare for holiday travel, family gatherings, and Thanksgiving celebrations, there's one important family member who deserves a little extra planning: your dog! Whether you're traveling out of town to visit relatives, hosting a house full of guests, or taking a much-needed holiday vacation, making arrangements for your dog's care ahead of time can help everyone enjoy a happier, less stressful Thanksgiving.
At Superior Pet Service, we understand that dogs are family. That's why we offer personalized pet care services, including homestyle dog boarding, in-home pet sitting, dog walking, and drop-in visits, to help your pets feel comfortable and cared for while you're away.
If you're planning to travel this Thanksgiving, here are seven reasons why booking your dog's holiday care early is one of the best decisions you can make.
1. Thanksgiving Is One of the Busiest Times for Dog Boarding
Thanksgiving week is a popular travel period, and many pet owners need boarding or pet sitting services at the same time. Between family vacations, holiday gatherings, and extended weekends, boarding availability can become limited as Thanksgiving approaches. Waiting until the last minute may leave you scrambling to find someone you trust to care for your dog.
Why booking early matters:
More opportunity to secure your preferred boarding dates.
Time to discuss your dog's individual needs and daily routine.
A chance to schedule a meet-and-greet before your trip.
Less stress as your holiday travel plans come together.
Peace of mind knowing your pet care arrangements are in place.

2. Homestyle Dog Boarding Offers a Comfortable Alternative to Traditional Kennels
For many dogs, being away from their families can be stressful, especially when they're introduced to an unfamiliar environment. Traditional boarding kennels may involve individual runs, unfamiliar noises, and a very different daily routine.
Homestyle dog boarding offers an alternative by providing care in a residential setting where dogs can enjoy a more familiar, home-like atmosphere. At Superior Pet Service, our goal is to make your dog's time away feel as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Benefits of homestyle dog boarding include:
A comfortable home environment
Dogs can enjoy a residential setting rather than a traditional kennel atmosphere.
Personalized attention
Every dog has a unique personality, energy level, and routine. Personalized care helps accommodate those differences.
Opportunities for exercise and enrichment
Regular activity, appropriate playtime, and companionship can help keep dogs engaged during their stay.
Consistency and familiarity
Maintaining familiar feeding schedules, rest periods, and daily habits can make the transition easier.
A more relaxed holiday experience
When your dog is receiving attentive care, you can focus on enjoying Thanksgiving with your family.
For pet parents searching for dog boarding in Erie, Frederick, Firestone, or Broomfield, Colorado, homestyle boarding may be an excellent option.
3. Booking Early Gives Your Dog Time to Get Comfortable
One of the biggest benefits of planning ahead is having enough time to introduce your dog to their caregiver. Dogs often feel more comfortable when they have an opportunity to become familiar with a new person or environment before an extended stay. If your dog has never stayed away from home, a meet-and-greet or short introductory visit may help you assess whether the arrangement is a good fit.
This is especially valuable for:
Puppies experiencing their first boarding stay.
Senior dogs who benefit from consistent routines.
Dogs who are nervous around unfamiliar people or environments.
Pets with specific feeding schedules or medication requirements.
Dogs who need a little extra attention and reassurance.
At Superior Pet Service, we encourage pet owners to communicate their dog's personality, preferences, and care requirements before booking.
The more we know about your pet, the better we can plan for their comfort.
4. Your Dog Can Enjoy Thanksgiving, Too!
Just because your dog isn't joining the family Thanksgiving dinner doesn't mean they can't enjoy the holiday. A comfortable boarding experience can include plenty of opportunities for attention, appropriate activity, and relaxation.
Depending on your dog's needs and the care arrangements, this might include:
Daily exercise and outdoor breaks.
Playtime and enrichment activities.
Relaxation and downtime.
Familiar meals and feeding routines.
Individual attention and companionship.
Comfortable sleeping arrangements.
For active dogs, regular exercise can be especially important during a boarding stay. If you're staying home for Thanksgiving but expect a busy schedule, our professional dog walking services can also help your dog maintain a healthy activity routine.
A happy, well-cared-for dog makes the holiday more enjoyable for everyone.
5. In-Home Pet Sitting May Be the Better Choice for Some Dogs
While homestyle boarding is an excellent option for many pets, some dogs are happiest remaining in their own homes. Senior dogs, pets with specific routines, and dogs who are uncomfortable in new environments may benefit from in-home care. Superior Pet Service also offers in-home pet sitting and overnight pet care, allowing pets to receive attention and care in familiar surroundings.
Benefits of in-home pet sitting
Your pet remains in their familiar environment.
Feeding, walking, and bedtime routines can be maintained.
Your dog avoids the transition to an unfamiliar boarding location.
Pets can receive personalized attention based on their needs.
Multi-pet households may find it more convenient to keep everyone at home.
For families with both dogs and cats, in-home visits can also simplify holiday pet care. Whether you need overnight care, dog walking, or scheduled drop-in visits, explore our pet care services to find an option that fits your holiday plans.
6. A Little Preparation Makes Holiday Boarding Easier
Once you've arranged your dog's Thanksgiving care, a little preparation can make their stay more comfortable.
Thanksgiving Dog Boarding Checklist
Before leaving for your holiday trip, consider preparing the following:
Food and feeding instructions
Provide enough of your dog's regular food for the entire stay, along with clear feeding instructions. Changing diets suddenly can cause digestive upset.
Medications and health information
Provide any required medications, dosage instructions, veterinary contact information, and emergency contacts.
Comfort items
A familiar blanket or favorite toy may help your dog settle into a new environment, if permitted by your boarding provider.
Daily routine
Share information about your dog's normal feeding times, bathroom schedule, exercise habits, and sleeping preferences.
Behavior and social preferences
Let your caregiver know how your dog responds to other dogs, unfamiliar people, loud noises, and new surroundings.
Updated contact information
Make sure your caregiver can reach you or an authorized emergency contact during your trip.
Vaccination and care requirements
Confirm any vaccination, health, or documentation requirements with your boarding provider ahead of time.
Taking these steps can make the experience smoother for both your dog and their caregiver.
7. Booking Thanksgiving Boarding Early Helps You Prepare for Christmas and New Year's
Thanksgiving is only the beginning of the busy holiday travel season. Christmas and New Year's follow just a few weeks later, and families often need pet care arrangements for multiple trips. If you already know you'll be traveling during December, consider planning your holiday pet care at the same time. Booking ahead gives you a better opportunity to coordinate your preferred dates and avoid last-minute scheduling challenges.
